Mike Tyson and Jake Paul's heavyweight boxing match on Nov. 15, 2024 in Arlington, Texas, was marred by technical issues that Netflix addressed in a statement Monday. Despite some poor viewing experiences, the event was considered a huge success by company executives, but the user experience was enough for the NFL to reach out with concern. After the fight, the NFL asked about the problems and assessed whether they could occur again on Christmas. Netflix said the fight reached 60 million homes, and the unprecedented scale of broadcasting a live sporting event contributed to some of the challenges they faced. The league walked away reassured that Netflix had figured out what went wrong and that it would not be an issue for the two games that day. Despite the technical difficulties, the bout reached several milestones, with over 108 million live global viewers and a $18.1 million gross revenue in Texas. The Pittsburgh Steelers will host the Kansas City Chiefs and Baltimore Ravens at 1 p.m. on Christmas, followed by the Houston Texans.
