Barkley, whose offseason contract negotiations with the Giants were documented on Hard Knocks, has found his stride in Philly. Through Week 12, his seventh NFL season has been one for the record books.
While the Giants have fallen apart since Barkley's departure to their NFC East foes, the Eagles are currently sitting pretty at 9-2 and at the top of the division. On the other hand, the 2-9 Giants are on a six-game losing skid and recently released franchise quarterback Daniel Jones.
FOX Sports' Colin Cowherd talked about the correlation between the Giants' decision to part ways with Barkley and their downward spiral this season. He wondered if the team might have cursed itself.
Saquon Barkley's move from the Giants to the rival Eagles has a Babe Ruth, Red Sox to the Yankees feel to it. Will the Giants be cursed for 100 years? Cowherd said.
Barkley currently leads the league with 1,392 yards rushing and 6.2 yards per carry, including a league-best seven 100-yard rushing games. He is also being talked up as a possible MVP candidate, which could make him the first RB MVP since Adrian Peterson in 2012.
Cowherd went on to talk about the value of Barkley to the Philadelphia offensive line, now partnered with other stars like Jalen Hurts and A.J. Brown.
Emmanuel Acho, a former Eagles linebacker and co-host of FS1's The Facility, weighed in on the same topic Monday. Can we be honest? he said. The only thing giant about New York is the mistakes that they made this offseason.
The Giants let go of Saquon Barkley and Xavier McKinney, amongst others. Xavier McKinney had seven interceptions on the season, while the Giants only had one. They let go of Saquon Barkley who had 302 scrimmage yards yesterday against the 26th-ranked defense, Acho continued.
So let me get this straight. The New York Football Giants are only giant at making mistakes, Acho concluded.
Meanwhile, the Giants are on pace for 14 losses, which would be the most in their franchise history. That's career lows, giant mistakes.
